One of the biggest milestones in the journey of R P Stone Clinic came in 1998, when Flexible Ureteroscopy, now widely known as Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS), was introduced for the first time in India.

After conducting the first workshop on Flexible Ureteroscopy, Dr. Pawan Kumar Gupta worked extensively on improving every aspect of RIRS. During the early years, flexible ureteroscopes, access sheaths, tipless baskets and Holmium laser systems were in a primitive phase. Working closely with leading endoscopic equipment manufacturers, he contributed to refining techniques that made the procedure safer and more effective.
Initially, small kidney stones were removed using specialized tipless baskets. As laser technology improved, larger and more complex stones could also be treated successfully through RIRS.

A major milestone was achieved in 2011, when the Urological Society of India organized a dedicated RIRS workshop at R P Stone Clinic, Panipat with Dr. Pawan Kumar Gupta as its organizing secretary.
